My advice to a brand new home schooling family would be to start asking questions to everyone all around you. You may be surprised to find that you probably either know some one who is home educating their children OR you at least know someone who knows someone (or for Pete's sake you at the very least know someone who knows someone who... er... knows someone!).
This is where my best resources came from. I asked questions and asked them quite frequently. What age do I start formally educating my kids? Where do I get the books I need (math book? readers? History books? etc.)? How many hours a day do I spend teaching my kids? Most people are more than happy to share their knowledge on these things. If you feel that (as I do) the Lord has called you to home school your kids then you will find that He also provides you with answers and encouragement from all the expected places...and even some from quite unexpected places as well.
